Desert Infantry with Spears and Bows for "Wars of Ozz"

     Over the weekend I finished up a unit of Desert Infantry with Spears and Bows; my first unit for a brigade of Temujican Eastern Nomads for my "Wars of Ozz" game at Historicon.

     The mounted officer came with a bicorne hat, which I felt didn’t quite suit the desert infantry vibe, so I trimmed it down to look more like just a domed metal helmet. I also didn’t paint the cuffs or any facings on the coat to try and make it look more plain.

"Wars of Ozz" Playtest for Historicon: Battle of the Pyramid

     At Friday night's club meeting I ran an initial trial playtest of my desert-themed “Wars of Ozz” game for Historicon: Wars of Ozz- Battle of the Pyramid. Still some tweaking to do, and some more troops and scenery to prepare, but it was a hard fought battle with victory coming down to the last turn.  "Wars of Ozz" is a fantasy Horse & Musket game with rules and figures produced by Old Glory.

     Yesterday I was able to finish the "Wars of Ozz"  Whim-Whim Chariots.  It took a bit of work to assemble everything, but the results are well worth it! I now have enough Whim-Whim painted to field a 23 point brigade, and hope to use them tonight in a preliminary Historicon playtest at our club meeting.

Whim-Whim Cavalry for "Wars of Ozz"

      This week I finished up a unit Whim-Whim Cavalry for "Wars of Ozz".  I really like the look of these guys, especially their unusual mounts.  I used mostly Speed and Contrast Paints.

Whim-Whim Bowmen for "Wars of Ozz"

   With a bit of warm weather over the weekend, I was able to get a final spray matte coat on this unit of Whim-Whim Bowmen for "Wars of Ozz".  I really appreciated what a quick paint these guys were. As usual, mostly Speed and Contrast Paint used.

Scratch Built Desert Buildings for "Wars of Ozz"

     As I prepare for my War of Ozz desert games with the Whim-Whim and Temujicans (Eastern Nomads) I started to think about suitable buildings to use on the table.  I wanted something vaguely Middle Eastern looking, but with an Ozzian twist.  I remembered some barbarian huts I had made for a fantasy game several years ago for which I had used seed starter pots as the basic structure, and I thought I could use that idea for Ozz. 

     So, I ordered a pack of 3.15 inch starter pots off Amazon and I got to work on a prototype.  I cut a door and window, as well as a small hole n the top; and then glued the pot to a cork coaster from a pack I picked up at my local grocery store. And also glued a small smoke pipe in the top, cut from a paper straw.  Then it was a simple matter of priming dark brown and giving it a suitable drybrushing and adding some details.   

      I finished a first prototype yesterday, and I'm pleased with how it looks.  Now I want to build about a half dozen more.  I may try some variations to mix things up a little.

      This past weekend I finished my first unit of Spearmen for my Whim-Whim army. Painting units for a "Wars of Ozz" desert project has been a nice change of pace.  Figures by Old Glory.  Mostly Speed and Contrast Paints used.
